The start!!!! The foundations being dug in May 2005. An old Georgian water tank was found and had to be dug out taking three lorry loads of concrete to fill.

Foundation walls completed and the oversite DPM in place.
The pre-cast concrete beams for the beam and block floor being swung into place.

The first sign of the timber frame! The sole plates being fixed.
The scaffolding goes up. This was very nearly forgotten and DTM Group of Bodmin put it up on Saturday having received the order at 5pm Friday!

The first lorry load of timber frame arrives.
The Grand Design camera crew at work. The 40 ton crane makes light work of lifting the steel and panels over the scaffolding and into place.

More panels are fixed in place.

The roof goes on. The 18mm ply is an important structural element and is nailed, glued and then screwed.

Lee boils up the bitument ready for laying the 3-layer high performance felt roof covering.

Bob rolling out the second felt layer.
Tiles for the North roof arrive.

The continuous aluminium gutter being rolled. The only joins on this system are at the corners and downpipes.
Alan fixing the abutment vents to the North roof.

Walls and roof in place.
North side interior walls.

South side showing main structural steels.

Interior of the flat roof showing I-beams,
steel and timber for platerboard.

The scaffolding has gone. Peter & Rupert are preparing for bad weather.
Temporary weatherproofing completed
(on the 9th September).

The packaged sewage treatment plant arrives.
Down she goes!

Peter (project manager and owner) proves that he does some work by painting a steel column.

Rupert and John cladding the North side.

The glass arrives from SolarGlass, Plymouth.

Grand Designs Director, Graham, films the unloading of the glass.

M.P.S. crew fitting one of the large (very heavy!!) windows.

Three cheers! - all the glass safely in place.

Grand Designs' Kevin McCloud talking to camera.

Rupert, Peter and Ryan discuss the finishing of the under floor heating pipes. Rupert's dog (Bear) waits for the heat.

The liquid screed is poured in place. It is magic to see waves of screed crossing the floor.

Snow in November! The house looks good from the outside.

The sheeps wool insulation arrives. It is much nicer to handle than the ususal material.

Sheeps wool in place. The ducting for the heat recovery ventilation system can be seen.

Kevin McCloud being filmed in the garden.

The feature wall is assembled in the sitting room.

The acoustic insulation in place ready for the plasterboard.

This huge lorry turned up with the plaster from France and a Polish driver who spoke no English. He became totally stuck in the Devon lanes - it took 3 hours to free the lorry!

Julian sprays on the first layer of the special thin coat plaster.

Jason and Julian (Plaster Faster, the local contractors) and Ivar (Alltek, the suppliers) spray on plaster. This is a superb method of finishing plaster board walls.

John White grouting the tiles in the wet room.

The Grand Design camera crew film the
start of the garden wall being rebuilt.

Ryan installs the glass wash basin in
the wet room.
Rupert and John constuct the under
